The 100 Best iPad Apps: Marketers Edition
As we dive into refreshing our strategic toolkit this Autumn, we should consider our automated tools.
A new study by Strategy Analytics found that tablet use currently accounts for 20 percent of weekly digital media consumption. It is estimated that 15.1 million tablets were sold during the second quarter of 2011 (18 percent of the total PC market).
The study also found that the average user spends 1.5 hours per day browsing content and other communication-based apps, and more than 25 percent of all tablet usage is dedicated to web browsing and email.
PC Magazine recently released a list of the top 100 iPad apps that deliver “unique and compelling tablet-based experiences.” Native apps are the focus of this list (as opposed to iPhone apps running in 2X mode). The list is separated into eight categories: social networking; business; communication; games; entertainment; creativity; news; reference and information; and reading.

1. Dropbox
Dropbox is a free service that allows you to store and access photos, docs, and videos online. Any file you save to your Dropbox will be accessible from any device that allows web access or on which you have installed the Dropbox application. This includes your computers, tablets, or smartphone.
2. Hootsuite
HootSuite allows users to create numerous social network streams and view them in a clean, friendly interface, dispatching messages to multiple networks simultaneously.
3. FlipBoard
Flipboard offers iPad users an original alternative to browsing the Web for news. FlipBoard leverages the iPad’s Web-connectivity to pull customizable feeds of blog posts, social networking updates, images, video, and articles into a slick, print-like layout that closely replicates the traditional reading experience.
4. Dragon Dictation
This dictation app is both fun to use and immensely helpful as long as you’re connected to the Web. It features very accurate voice transcription and the ability to share messages via e-mail, Facebook, and Twitter.
5. Notability
Notability is one of the most full-featured note-taking apps available. It’s especially useful to people who pull Web clips while on the go, need to mark up images, or need to visually sketch their ideas in addition to typing text notes or recording audio notes.
