Follow The Baby Boomer Audience Online

According to a report from Forrester Research, nearly two-thirds of Baby Boomers ages 53-63 consume social media – blogs, video, podcasts, etc.

Why should businesses care about how many Baby Boomers are posting pics of the grandkids on Facebook? Because they’re getting braver about participating in social media, that’s why. The same report stated that the number of Baby Boomers responding to online content more than doubled from 15 to 34 percent last year.

So the next time someone tells you the only way to reach older consumers with disposable income is via traditional media, you now have ammunition to counter with an effective, well-thought out supplement to a more complete marketing strategy.

Go online. Find out what sites are attracting Baby Boomers. Listen to (read) their online conversations. Find out what blogs they’re reading and which ones they’re commenting on. It’ll only cost you your time to find out what’s motivating older consumers today. And if the thought of creating a profile of yourself online intimidates you, there are professionals out there who can help you get started and show you how to navigate your way online.

If social media is where the Baby Boomer audience is growing, isn’t that where your business should be growing, too?
